Grazing incidence diffraction and Brewster-angle microscope studies of mixtures of hexadecanoic acid and methyl hexadecanoate: the unexpected appearance of a phase with nearest-neighbor tilt

Article Abstract:

Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction and Brewster-angle microscopy studies on mixtures of hexadecanoic acid with methyl n-hexadecanoate are performed to examine the relative stability of monolayer phases with nearest-neighbor (NN) and next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) tilt directions. It is argued that the stability of the NN phase is the result of disorder in the chain ends of the amphiphile.

Free energy simulations of D-xylose in water and methyl D-xylopyranoisede in methanol

Article Abstract:

Free energy simulation is performed to analyze the anomeric equilibrium of D-xylose in water and methyl D-xyloside in methanol. The free energy simulations of the monosaccharides xylose in water and methyl xyloside in methanol concluded that the influence of solvent on the alpha: beta ratio is small.

Electrochemical and Raman spectroscopy study of a Nafion perfluorosulfonic membrane in organic solvent-water mixtures

Article Abstract:

The transport properties of an ion exchange membrane were modified by the presence of an organic solvent. The conclusion states that tetrahydrofuran (THF) has a particular behavior in a Nafion perfluorosulfonic membrane as compared to ethylene glycol (EG) and N-methylformamide.
