Growth of silver nanowires from solutions: A cyclic penta-twinned-crystal growth mechanism

Article Abstract:

Silver nanowires are synthesized by simple reduction of the silver ions with reductants such as glucose, sodium citrate, and sodium hypophosohite in the absence of the so-called surfactants or capping reagents at the temperature from 80 to 200 degree Celsius. It is revealed that all the silver nanowires in the as-prepared products are of cyclic penta-twinned structure, where five crystallites bond by the {111} facets.

Molten salt route toward the growth of ZnO nanowires in unusual growth directions

Article Abstract:

A demonstration is presented on molten salt route in tuning of the growth directions of nanowires with specific crystal structures by using Zinc oxide (ZnO) as an example. This study deepens the understanding of the mechanism of molten-salt synthetic process, which indicates that molten salts are very effective to influence the surface energies of the crystals having polar surfaces.

Electrochemical growth of three-dimensional nanostripe architecture of antimony on Cu (100)

Article Abstract:

The electrochemical growth of a well-oriented three-dimensional (3D) nanostripe architecture of Sb on Cu (100) by a coincidence lattice and by the layer-by-layer stacking mechanism is reported. The study revealed that the system has a large crystallographic misfit but still shows thickness-independent growth features.
