Distribution of the Se atoms in the layered compound Nb3(Se(sub 1-x)Ix)I7 studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and electronic structure calculations

Article Abstract:

The amount and distribution of Se atoms among the face-capping sites of Nb3Se(sub 1-x)I(sub 7+x) are investigated via scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and experiments on Nb(Se(sub 1-x)Ix)I7. Results show that the Nb3I13 and Nb3SeI12 clusters undergo various amounts of tip-force induced indentation which makes these distinguishable by STM. The distribution of Se atoms in Nb3Se(sub 1-x)I(sub 7+x) are also found to be random.

Mechanical and thermal spreading of antimony oxides on the TiO2 surface: dispersion and properties of surface antimony species

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the spreading behaviour of antimony oxides on anatase and the oxidation stats of antimony in the prepared catalyst precursors are discussed. Milling of the oxide mixtures in the absence of water was found to bring about spreading of Sb2O3 across the TiO2 surface, creating an extremely dispersed overlayer.
