Lipid membrane partitioning of lysolipids and fatty acids: effects of membrane phase structure and detergent chain length

Article Abstract:

Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) was used for examining the lipid membrane partitioning of lysolipids (lysoPC) and fatty acids (FA) into unilamellar vesicles composed of saturated DC(sub 16)PC phospholipids. It can be concluded that the fluid lipid membranes could be responsible for incorporating a high amount of detergents without giving rise to any significant perturbations of the lipid membrane barrier properties.

Fatty-acid monolayers at the nematic/water interface: Phases and Liquid-crystal alignment

Article Abstract:

The two-dimensional (2D) phases of fatty-acids monolayers (hexadecanoic, octadecanoic, eicosanoic and docosanoic acids) are examined at the interface of a nematic liquid crystal (LC) and water. It is seen that LC, on observation between crossed polarizers, the responds to monolayer structure due to mesoscopic alignment of LC by the adsorbed molecules.

Intermolecular interactions and the structure of fatty acid-soap crystals

Article Abstract:

A combination of crystallography, molecular dynamic (MD) simulations and infrared spectroscopy is used to explore the nature of intermolecular interactions in long chain length acid-soaps. The subtle variations observed in intermolecular interactions reflect in the deviations of spectral features from the parent acid and soap crystals.
