Making common sense

Article Abstract:

Crop Production Services (CPS) of Wenona, IL, has adopted a pragmatic approach to precision agriculture by adhering to the principle of specialization since starting precision work in the early 1990s. The firm has undergone grid spreading on around 14,000 acres as well as variable-rate application to grid soil and compaction setting on 45,000 acres. CPS plans to create individualized soil maps that determine an area's yield potential and crop scouting services to keep up with changes in precision agriculture. CPS' manager Gene Schultz said that the firm has kept updating with a staff precision expert and four operators who regularly attend training sponsored by Ag-Chem Equipment.
