Optimized biorecognition of cytochrome c 551 and azurin immobilized on thiol-terminated monolayers assembled on Au(111) substrates

Article Abstract:

Molecular recognition between two redox partners, azurin (AZ) and cytochrome c 551 (C551), is explored at the single-molecule level by using atomic force spectroscopy, after optimizing azurin adsorption on gold via sulfhydryl-terminated alkanethiol spacers. Evidence is provided for specific interaction between the two partners, thereby showing that AZ preserves biorecognition capability when assembled on gold via these spacers.

Adsorption of 2-mercaptopyrimidine on silver nanoparticles in water

Article Abstract:

Adsorption of 2-mercaptopyrimidine (2-MP), a prototype of biologically important N-heterocyclic aromatic thiols is examined on 100-120 nm silver particles in aqueous solution. The Ag-S bonding, as indicated by the stretching frequency, is stronger on the particle surface as compared to the bonding with the electrode surface.

Structure of tert-butyl carbamate-terminated thiol chemisorbed to gold

Article Abstract:

Monolayers of tert-butyl carbamate-terminated thiol are formed by adsorption of the molecules onto polycrystalline gold substrate. The electronic structure, composition, characteristic fingerprint and orientation of the molecular absorbate are obtained.
