Photoinduced electron transfer from conjugated polymers to TiO2

Article Abstract:

Photoinduced electron transfer from pi-conjugated polymers, specifically derivatives of poly(p-phenylenevinylene)s and polythiophenes, to nanocrystalline TiO2 was investigated. The photoinduced absorption spectra of the polymers adsorbed on nc-TiO2 showed two subgap transitions in the near-infrared and visible range of the spectrum, which are characteristic of the formation of cation radicals on the polymer chains, as a result of a photoinduced electron-transfer reaction.

Hybrid zinc oxide conjugated polymer bulk heterojunction solar cells

Article Abstract:

Bulk heterojunction photovoltaic devices based on blends of a conjugated polymer poly[2-methoxy-5-(3',7'-dimethyloctyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MDMO-PPV) as electron donor and crystalline ZnO nanoparticles (nc-ZnO) as electron acceptor is studied. Transient photoinduced absorption (PIA) spectroscopy on mixed nc-ZnO:MDMO-PPV films reveal the formation of MDMO-PPV radical cations and conduction band electrons in nc-ZnO after excitation of the polymer with visible light.

Photogeneration and decay of charge carriers in hybrid bulk heterojunctions of ZnO nanoparticles and conjugated polymers

Article Abstract:

The photogeneration and decay of charge carriers in blend films of ZnO nanoparticles and conjugated polymers were studied by means of microwave-photoconductance measurements. The results provide insight into the effect of the blend composition on the efficiency of charge carrier formation and the kinetics of charge carrier decay.
