Reactions of surface amines with heterobifunctional cross-linkers bearing both succinimidyl ester and maleimide for grafting biomolecules

Article Abstract:

The surface reactions with a series of heterobifunctional cross-linkers containing both succinimidyl ester and maleimide were investigated with infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRRAS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and near-edge-X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS). It is concluded that at room temperature and in acetonitrile, the reactions of surface amines with most cross-linkers produce functionalized surfaces with predominantly maleimide-pendant groups.

Relaxation dynamics and transient behavior of small arenethiol passivated gold nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

Novel gold nanoparticles, passivated by monolayers of benzenethiol, biphenylthiol, and similar derivatives, are synthesized and characterized using UV/vis, NMR, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies. Femtosecond transient absorption measurements show that the nanoparticles possess optical properties on the boundary between molecular and nanoparticle behavior.

Photoinduced birefringence in poly(malonic ester) containing p-cyanoazobenzene with photoexcitation of cis conformer

Article Abstract:

Photoinduced birefringence in a poly(malonic ester) containing two symmetrical p-cyanoazobenzene groups is investigated using two pumping beams with different wavelengths of 365 and 488 nm, which are assignable to the absorption wavelengths of trans and cis conformers of azobenzene, respectively.
