Reexamination of ultrasonic relaxation kinetics of aqueous solutions of nucleotides: evidence for fast syn-anti glycosyl isomerization in adenosine 5'-monophosphate and adenosine 5'-diphosphate

Article Abstract:

Ultrasonic absorption coefficients in aqueous solutions of adenosine 5'-monophosphate and adenosine 5'-diphosphate have been measured at 25 degrees C. Two relaxational absorption spectra have been observed when the pH is almost 5. The first is at the frequency range less than 10 MHz having a large amplitude of the ultrasonic relaxation. The second relaxation band is near 100 MHz with a smaller amplitude than that due to the proton transfer reaction.

Kinetic and thermodynamic study of syn-anti-glycosyl isomerization in aqueous solutions of AMP, ADP, and ATP by ultrasonic relaxation methods

Article Abstract:

The ultrasonic absorption coefficients of adenosine 5'-triphoshphate (ATP) are measured as a function of concentration and pH. Results show an ultrasonic relaxational absorption with two relaxation frequencies near pH 3. Relaxation is due to a syn-anti glycosyl isomerization reaction of ATP. Ultrasonic absorption in aqueous solutions of adenosine 5'-monophosphate, adenosine 5'-diphosphate and ATP were also measured to determine the thermodynamic parameters of the syn-anti conformational isomerization process of the nucleotides.
