Relation between solvent and protein dynamics as studied by dielectric spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

The dielectric data shows at least four relaxation processes, with frequency dependencies that are described by the Havriliak-Negami or Cole-Cole functions and the fastest process in the dielectric spectra of hemoglobin in glycerol and methanol solutions is same to the alpha-relational of the corresponding bulk solvent. The result obtained by dielectric spectroscopy in wide frequency and temperature ranges on human hemoglobin in three different solvents water, glycerol, and methanol, at a solvent level of 0.8 g of solvent/g of protein is presented.

Dynamical heterogeneity and jamming in glass-forming liquids

Article Abstract:

The relationship between spatially heterogeneous dynamics (SHD) and jamming is studied in a glass-forming binary Lennard-Jones system via molecular dynamics simulations. It is found that force chains constructed based on the magnitude of pairwise positive instantaneous forces are composed of both localized and mobile particles, therefore there is no one-to-one correspondence between force chains and locally mobile or immobile regions of the liquid.

Relaxation of hydrogen-bonded liquids confined in two-dimensional vermiculite clay

Article Abstract:

Broadband dielectric spectroscopy (10(super -2) - 10(super 9)) and temperature-modulated differential scanning colorimetry techniques are used to investigate the molecular dynamics of monomer, dimer, and trimer of propylene glycol mono methyl ether (PGME) confined in a two-dimensional layer-structured Na-vermiculite clay.
