Selective extraction and purification of endohedral metallofullerene from carbon soot

Article Abstract:

An improved isolation of endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs) from carbon soot through the use of the reduction in the extraction process and different solubilities between neutral empty fullerenes and endohedral metallofullerene anions ([(EMFs).sup.-] is reported. Results reveal that EMFs are easily isolated by one-stage high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) separation after the chemical oxidation of [(EMFs).sup.-].

Synthesis and characterization of exohedrally silylated M@C82 (M=Y and La)

Article Abstract:

The silylation of endohedral mono-metallofullerenes and isolation of the corresponding adducts by HPLC separation is accomplished. It concluded that bis-silylation is very effective for producing the electronegatively mono-metallofullerene derivatives as well as empty fullerenes.

Structural determination of the La@C(sub 82) isomer

Article Abstract:

A stable diamagnetic monoanion of the 82) isomer was elctrochemically prepared and isolated in order to disclose its cage symmetry. It was determined that the isomer has Cs symmetry, as was confirmed by density functional calculations.
