Structural study of acidic phospholipid-basic homopolypeptide complexes by 31P and 13C solid-state NMR chemical shifts

Article Abstract:

The secondary structures of poly(L-lysine) (pLYS) and poly(L-argine) (pARG) in the complex samples with dipalmitoylphosphatidic (DPPA) were characterized using 13C cross polarization and magic angle spinning (MAS) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Each amino acid residue of the basic polypeptides, pLYS and pARG, possessed a positive charge in the side chain indicating its link to negatively charged acidic phospholipids. It was discovered that a beta-sheet conformation was produced by pLYS and a secondary structure of pARG was present on the surface of the DPPA membrane.

Polymer swelling. Molecular structure-affinity correlation studies that involve poly(styrene-co-divnylbenzene) exposed to cyclic olefinic liquids

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare absorption parameter values determined for cyclic olefinic liquids with those of cyclic hydrocarbons and for associated acyclic hydrocarbons. A set of composite film samples was permitted to swell to saturation in excess test liquid. The volumes of sorbed liquid per gram of enmeshed particles in the samples were then determined gravemetrically. Results indicated that progressive unsaturation at constant ring size increases the absorption parameter.
