Study of the acidic sites and their modifications in mesoporous silica synthesized in acidic medium under quiescent conditions

Article Abstract:

Two methods based on thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT) measurements are compared to characterize the silanol group content in mesoporous silica prepared in acidic medium. It is concluded that the silanol group content is smaller than the one of precipitated silica, used as stationary phases for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) or as adsorbents, which have values around 4.9 OH/nm(super 2).

Electrochemical investigation on the polycondensation kinetics of silicon alkoxides by functionalization of the silica network by redox species

Article Abstract:

The sol-gel polycondensation of tetramethoxysilane is followed for the first time by functionalization of the oligomeric silane species with a redox active ferrocene. The decrease in the average diffusion coefficient of the mobile species is recorded as it brings information on the sol or gel state, as well as an easy insight of the polycondensation kinetics.

A Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) study of the reaction of triethoxysilane (TES) and bis[3-triethoxysilylpropyl]tetrasulfane (TESPT) with the surface of amorphous silica

Article Abstract:

The interaction of triethoxysilane (TES) and bis[3-triethoxysilylpropyl]tetrasulfane (TESPT) with silica has been studied by IR spectroscopy. TES is adsorbed onto silica pretreated at different temperatures, from the gas phase and, also by a liquid-phase procedure.
