Studying heterogeneous catalysis by the scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM): the reduction of protons by methyl viologen catalyzed by a platinum surface

Article Abstract:

A scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) is used to examine a surface-catalyzed electron-transfer reaction. The model system employed was the reduction of protons by reduced N,N'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinum methyl viologen radical cation MV(super +) catalyzed by a platinum surface. The experimental configuration was built on the geometry of two similar nonreactive ultramicroelectrodes, one biased and the other unbiased, approaching each other, enabling the simultaneous measurement of the catalytic current and the mixed potential attained at the platinum surface.

Probing the coupling of charge-transfer processes across liquid/liquid interfaces by the scanning electrochemical microscope

Article Abstract:

Research into charge-transfer coupling between two ion-transfer processes across liquid/liquid interfaces is presented. It was possible to see the strong effect that mass-transfer limitations of the coupled processes will probably pose on the potential across the surface.

Measurement of lateral charge propagation in polyaniline layers with the scanning electrochemical microscope

Article Abstract:

A study was done on the local injection and lateral propagation of the charge in ultrathin polyaniline (PAN) layers by scanning electrochemical microscope (SECHM). The results evaluated the kinetics of charge propagation by simulating the current-time transients.
