The effect of impurity cations on the transport characteristics of perfluorosulfonated ionomer membranes

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the ion and water transport properties of perfluorosulfonated ionomer membranes in the mixed cation form of H/Fe, H/Ni, and H/Cu systems. The Nafion membranes were prepared as test samples while equilibrium and transport characteristics were determined systematically. Findings indicated that the impurity ions resulted in more water molecules dragged than in the case of individual ions during coexistence with the H+ ion.

Temperature dependence of ion and water transport in perfluorinated ionomer membranes for fuel cells

Article Abstract:

A detailed investigation was conducted on the temperature dependence of ions and water molecules transport behaviors. The objective of the investigation was to clarify the mechanisms of transport of ions and water molecules in perfluorosulfonated isomer membranes for fuel cells.

The effect of impurity cations on the oxygen reduction kinetics at platinum electrodes covered with perfluorinated ionomer

Article Abstract:

The effect of impurity cations on the kinetics of oxygen reduction reaction on platinum covered with ionomer membranes is studied. The impurity ions were found hindering enormously the rate of charge-transfer step at platinum covered with perfluoro-sulfonated ionomer.
