Theoretical analysis of mesogenic properties of benzalazine and benzopyran derivatives

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the mesogenic behaviors of 4,4'di-n-alkoxybenzalazine and 3-phenyl-4H-4-(one)-benzopyran derivatives using theoretical models. McMillan's model was used to interpret qualitatively the smectic and nematic phases. Their electronic properties were measured by a semiempirical molecular orbital method. Results indicate that rigid-body repulsive interactions are not so important in smectic-nematic transition.

Correlation between bulk and surface properties of AgSn liquid alloys

Article Abstract:

The compound formation (Ag3Sn) in AgSn liquid alloys at T = 1250 degrees K and its influence on mixing properties have been investigated. The concentration dependence of different thermodynamic, structural, physical and surface parameters were determined. The correlation between surface tension and bulk properties was also investigated. The results showed that the surface is enriched with Sn atom at all bulk compositions.

Structure and properties of an exceptional low molecular weight hydrogelator

Article Abstract:

The structure-gelling relations of a low molecular weight (LMW) hydrogelator, which can form a hydrogel in water in room temperature, are analyzed. Nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray scattering, birefringence and microscopy are used for studying the structure of the gel and the unique behavior of gelation.
