US: AKZO NOBEL SELLS PORTER PAINTS TO PPG

Article Abstract:

The sale of the US Architectural Paint Coatings division (Porter Paint) by Akzo Nobel to PPG Industries took effect at the end of November 1998. This was part of an agreement in connection with Akzo Nobel's acquisition of Courtaulds. Porter Paint has a production plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and 125 retail outlets of its own. The products are distributed also through independent dealers. The main market is in the Midwest and south-east of the US. Porter Paint's product range includes also wallpaper. PPG is taking over also the former Courtaulds division of Packaging Coatings.

Article Abstract:

The German Herford-based coatings producer Ernst Peter & Sohn GmbH is in talks with the Chinese company First Pencil about taking a minority stake in a joint venture with the world's biggest pencil manufacturer. Also Deutsche Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG) would participate in the project. In Singapore, Ernst Peter is expanding its range of business contacts from the plastic processing industry to the wood processing industry.

Amba Lamps Ltd of Banbury, UK, has been acquired by German Hanau-based Heraeus Noblelight GmbH with effect from 1 October 1999. Together, the two companies become a leading supplier of ultraviolet and infra-red radiation sources for the drying of paints and varnishes.
