Weather watchers

Article Abstract:

A number of agricultural products dealerships in the US have begun employing weather stations to aid customers in managing their farmlands more efficiently. The ability of the dealer to achieve a successful weather information marketing program depends on factors such as local growing conditions and crops. Weather Farm Service and Terra are among the dealerships that have pioneered weather information-based services. Other companies that also offer weather information services include Adcon Telemetry Inc. of Boca Raton, FL, AgriCast of Escondido, CA, AWIS of Auburn, AL, and Concord Environmental Equipment of Hawley, MN.

Seeds of growth

Article Abstract:

The US seed industry is expected to grow by 20% to 30% in the succeeding three years from 1998. The projection is the result of the 1998 'Precision Agricultural Dealership and Enhanced Seed Adoption Survey' conducted by Farm Chemicals and the Purdue University Center for Agricultural Business. The study, which also projects a minimum 50% increase in the agricultural area planted to enhanced seed by 2001, expects the chemical and fertilizer dealers to benefit from the predicted shakeup of the market.

PCS' Gary Carlson on global trends

Article Abstract:

PCS Sales President Gary Carlson predicted in an interview that the global fertilizer market will experience slight growth in 1999. The uncertainties resulting from currency devaluations and weather-related conditions, such as the El Nino/La Nina phenomenons, will contribute to the stagnation of fertilizer sales for this year. Carlson also detailed PCS Sales' strategy in capturing the N-P-K market and its position over the ongoing trend of industry rivals of expanding retail operations.
