Why EXAFS underestimated the size of small supported MoS2 particles

Article Abstract:

How the nonideal structure of molybdenum sulfide (MoS2) particles influences the determination of particle size by extended x-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (EXAFS) has been studied. Emphasis is given in investigating the effects of distortion of the edge of the MoS2 particles by shortening and lengthening of Mo-Mo distances. It has been observed that EXAFS underestimated the diameter of the MoS2 particles because the nearest neighbor Mo-Mo coordination number was interpreted for ordered MoS2 particles even if the particles were highly distorted and disordered.

A high-resolution MAS NMR study of the structure of fluorinated NiW/gamma-Al2O3 hydrotreating catalysts

Article Abstract:

The structures of fluorinated oxidic and sulfided W/gamma-Al2O3 and NiW/gamma-Al2O3 catalysts are studied by means of multinuclear magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR) and BET measurements. Fluorination of gamma-alumina promotes the formation of polymeric tungstates in the catalysts and also facilitates the sulfidation of tungsten.

Visible upconversion in rare earth ion-doped Gd2O3 nanocrystals

Article Abstract:

Rare earth ions-doped cubic gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanocrystals were prepared by a simple sol-gel method. Laser power and doping concentration dependence of the upconverted emissions were suited to understand the upconversion mechanisms.
