Chemistry, design, and structure-activity relationship of cocaine antagonists

Article Abstract:

A review of research aiming to identify a true cocaine antagonist which could inhibit cocaine binding without affecting dopamine transport at the dopamine transporter is presented. A number of strategies have been used to design cocaine analogues, and it was found that, in the phenyltropanes, raised electron density in the phenyl ring substantially improves the potency of the compounds. It was found that, in general, phenyltropanes have improved binding potency for the cocaine binding site.

Chemistry of peroxynitrites as compared to peroxynitrates

Article Abstract:

A review discusses the reaction patterns of ONOOH/OONO(super -) and O2NOOH/O2NOO(super -) and demonstrates the main differences between these peroxides. A scrutinization of the behavior of derivatives of these compounds that include alkylated peroxynitrites and peroxynitrates as well as some biologically important enzyme-based metal peroxynitrates are presented.

Structure and chemistry of cytochrome P450

Article Abstract:

The cytochrome P450s are known for their efficiency in hydroxylation of unactivated alkanes as only a select few oxygenases possess the requisite 'active oxygen' state. A discussion of the P450 catalytic mechanism presented, typically focuses on the state of heme iron and oxygen.
