Crystal structure of the spirophosphorane (OCMe2C(O)O)2PH
Article Abstract:
The crystal structure of (OCMe2C(O)O)2PH), a spirobicyclic phosphorane, has been investigated. In crystals form C8H13O6P is orthorhombic with a = 10.515, b = 10.623, c = 20.552 angstroms, Z = 8. The structure was found by direct methods. Full-matrix least-squares processes were used to refine it to R = 0.037 (R sub w = 0.033) for 1616 reflections with I greater than 3 sigma (I). The structure is made up of two separate molecules with, in both cases, a distorted trigonal bipyramidal geometry. The distortion is close to that expected from the Berry pseudorotation coordinate.

Oxidation of 2-methylpyrroles with perchlorinated iron(III) metalloporphyrin catalysts: a versatile synthesis of symmetric and asymmetric dipyrromethanes
Article Abstract:
Various substituted 2-methylpyrroles have been oxidized using metalloporphyrin catalysts iron(III) meso-tetra 2,6-dichlorophenyl)-beta-octachloroporphyrin chloride and iron(III) meso-tetra(2,6-dichloro-3-sulphonatophenyl-beta-octachloroporphyrin chloride using very mild conditions. The resulting allylic alcohols, when treated with alpha-free pyrroles gave an efficient synthesis of the corresponding dipyrromethane. The allylic alcohols gave the novel (2-furylmethyl)-2-pyrrolylmethylamines when treated with furfurylamine.

Tripodal trisamides based on nicotinic and picolinic acid derivatives
Article Abstract:
Acyclic tripodal or linear polyamines may be coupled with nicotinic or picolinic acid derivatives to form polydentate arylamide ligands suitable for metal ion chelation. The reaction of carboxylic acid with carbonyldiimidazole, followed by reaction with an amine, produces an arylamide such as H(sub 3)PICTAME, a monoclinic crystal with an extensive hydrogen-bonding network.
