Kinetics and mechanisms for the cleavage and isomerization of the phosphodiester bonds of RNA by Bronsted acids and bases

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine quantitative information on cleavage and isomerization of RNA phosphodiester bonds by Bronsted acids and bases. The pH-rate profiles for the transesterifications were determined over a wide range of acidity while an analogous stepwise mechanism was utilized for the hydronium ion catalyzed cyclization of phosphodiester. The kinetic term associated with the dependence of rate on (SH2) predominated with the isomerization and cleavage over a narrow acidity range around pH 3.

Unimolecular photochemistry of anthracenes

Article Abstract:

The electron spectral properties, photolytic transformations, intramolecular energy transfer and excited-state reactions of anthracenes in various forms are discussed. Unimolecular photochemical reactions of anthracene extracts, bichromophoric anthracene intramolecular reactions in particular, are also reviewed. Anthracene pi-system prevails as the most useful method for studying photochemistry of micelles and DNA energy transfer.

Photochemical one-way adiabatic isomerization of aromatic olefins

Article Abstract:

The photoisomerization around the double bond and one-way internal rotation around the single bond in an excited single state are discussed. The two-way isomerization between cis and trans isomers changes to a one-way isomerization at an adiabatic rate through quantum chain process. Molecular structural factors causing one-way isomerization are viewed with regards to mechanism, potential energy topology and quantum chain process.
