Metal-assisted cycloaddition reactions in organotransition metal chemistry

Article Abstract:

Metal-assisted cycloaddition reactions are very useful in the synthesis of organic and organometal compounds, with the metal fragment having a number of roles. A metal complex and organic substrate firstly react in a stoichiometric way to yield the compound with which the metal-assisted cycloaddition reaction can begin. The sterical and electronic properties of a metal influence the reaction where the metal is bound to one or more of the starting materials. Metal-assisted cycloaddition reactions are analysed, including (2+1), (2+2), (3+2), (4+2) reactions, together with higher order and multicomponent metal-assisted cycloaddition reactions.

Ortho-arene cyclynes, related heterocyclynes, and their metal chemistry

Article Abstract:

Research into a subset of dehydroannulenes made up of cyclooligomeric alkynes is presented. This work also looked at heterocyclic oligoynes (heterocyclynes) and the subgroup metallacyclic oligoynes (metallacyclynes). It is concluded that the size of the metal with regard to the size of the cyclotriyne cavity and the metal to cyclotriyne stoichiometry are significant elements in determining the type of metal to cyclotriyne bonding that will be seen in the product.

The chemistry of highly strained oligospirocyclopropane systems

Article Abstract:

A discussion of the family of extremely strained [n]triangulanes, their cycloannelated analogues and functional derivatives is presented. It is suggested that a very large unexplored area of triangulane chemistry is emerging. There will soon be a wide range of new triangulanes, particularly with regard to stereoselectively functionalized derivatives.
