Use of solid catalysts in Friedel-crafts acylation reactions

Article Abstract:

Advances in the use of heterogeneous catalysts for Friedel-Craft acylation of aromatic compounds are discussed considering the role of surface-active sites in the activation of reagents and their role in the different modes of regioselectivity faced in the acylation of arenes, phenols and aromatic ethers. Results reveal that reactions carried out in gas-phase or under continuous fixed-bed reaction conditions, involving continuous removal of poisons and products from the catalyst surface display an improved performance.

Protection (and deprotection) of functional groups in organic synthesis by heterogeneous catalysis

Article Abstract:

The application of heterogeneous catalysis in protecting group chemistry is described. An extensive application of heterogeneous catalysis in synthetic chemistry can help to achieve new selective reactions, to lower the waste production, and, finally, to render more attractive synthetic process from both the environmental and economic point of view.

Conjugate additions of nitroalkanes to electron-poor alkenes: Recent results

Article Abstract:

The utilization of nitroalkanes as nucleophiles in conjugate additions with electron-poor alkenes and the new procedures, related applications appearing in the literature after 1990 are described. Importance will be given to asymmetric additions carried out using optically active alkenes or with the aid of chiral catalysts.
