A Well-Mapped OA Journey

Article Abstract:

The Rubbermaid company has won a silver award in the 1984 Office Automation Awards contest for its ongoing, scheduled plan for implementing office automation. The plan is a step-by-step procedure for automating functions and then gradually integrating them into an information network. After determining needs and equipment, a five-year plan was endorsed. The plan incorporates a pyramid approach, with a base of Wang Office Information systems text editors and facilities equipment. The next level includes communications, then electronic data bases, administrative support systems and, at the top, multifunctional management stations. A diagram of Rubbermaid's OA plan is included.
