Article Abstract:

Energy users in the United Kingdom will be able to choose which company supplies their electricity rather than receiving it from their regional electricity board. This competition should mean better levels of service and cheaper electricity prices, although it is not expected to be as significant as within the gas market. The electricity industry regulator has insisted on a maximum price for electricity and this is expected to mean a price reduction of around 9%. Electricity from new suppliers cannot be received before autumn 1998.
