ECR In-Line Systems Offer Improved Store Management

Article Abstract:

The unit sales for electronic cash registers (ECRs) has been increasing over the years. These systems provide faster, more accurate means of processing information that enables retailers to improve management efficiency and distribution. A point-of-sale system (POS) is an optical automatic-reading ECR that inputs information, such as sales, purchases, to a central computer. This provides immediate access to accurate, detailed information by other departments. When a central computer is not available, a store can install a scannerless POS. This is characterized by in-store, on-line POS systems that can be connected to a fixed scanner.
