Electronic Check Writers Becoming More Operable with Electronics

Article Abstract:

Japan is currently using and selling a variety of check writer systems. These systems include rotary, lever, electric and electronic check writers. Check writers have developed over the years that provide features to assist with the prevention of check alteration and forgery, to provide increased efficiency in processing clerical work and to incorporate microcomputer operations. An estimated 108 per cent increase in the production quantity and value of check writers was indicated during January to July 1983, as compared to 1982. Exports also increased from 15,109 units to 20,049 units during this same period. A chart indicates production development of check writers in Japan.

Telecommunications and electronic equipment worth fifty million dollars will be used at the Los Angeles Olympics. There will be thirty Olympic sites spread over 11,650 square kilometers. Messaging, radio paging, teminals, printers, telex, and timing systems are part of the equipment. AT&T, Western Electric, Longines-Wittnauer, and Omega are supplying the equipment.
