Article Abstract:

Office automation continues to grow in federal offices. Recent examples are the implementation of programs in the Executive Office and Department of the Treasury. Members of office and data automation groups are implementing Grace Commission recommendations for improved operations. Key suggestions were appointment of a Federal Resources Manager and an aggressive businesslike approach to problem solving. Federal managers are participating in the President's Commission on Executive Exchange which places government executives on one-year assignments in private industry.

Article Abstract:

Mailroom tasks of sorting, folding, sealing and stamping are repetitive and boring. It is the manager's job to boost the morale of employees while also keeping down costs. Digital readout scales can be more accurately read than the older fan scales and have the capability of producing rate information. The IMS Division, Better Packages, Inc.'s scales produce records of customer's charges. The Envelope Verifier from Omation Corporation checks ingoing and outgoing mail. A number of suggestions for obtaining lowest mailing rates are given.
