Article Abstract:

Educational programs on the benefits of ergonomics for workers are increasing. Furniture manufacturers are beginning to use ergonomic design features in desks. The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association has started a program for members and customers to motivate workers to use the ergonomic adjustments. An insurance company shows its employees an audiovisual presentation on how to use their chairs. Facility managers are working with architects, MIS managers and others to improve entire ergonomic environments. The Integrated Facilities Institute (TIFI) in Houston, Texas, is a non-profit and independent group for facility managers and others who want an introduction to major facility ergonomic issues.

A company's success can be linked to the selection of good managers. When selecting managers, factors other than job performance should be considered. The ablility to think in an abstract form, an objective personality, possessing accounting aptitude and foresight, and the ability to communicate well are important considerations.
