How Computer-Aided Design Improves the Workplace

Article Abstract:

The use of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) is yielding similar benefits to architects that word processing has given to automated offices. CAD allows processing of numerous design drafts, saving time and permitting a higher level of control over the accuracy and completeness of architectural sketches. CAD may yield benefits in the administration of an architectural firm through better definition of responsibilities, more efficient delivery of design documents, and budget control advantages of computerized inventories and cost summations. The use of CAD in interior design by an architectural firm presents advantages to a client after construction by facilitating renovation, occupancy, management and remodeling operations.

How to Design Your 'Dream' Computer Room

Article Abstract:

In designing optimum computer facilities, a company committee should first identify the needs, the area requirements, and the flow of data. The computer room needs a raised floor for cables, a control system for maintaining a seventy-two degree temperature and fifty per cent humidity, movable power plugs, and command center. Adjacent areas for tape and disk storage, input and output control, data lines entry, and data entry equipment should be planned, along with comfortable, flexible programming locations and relaxing facilities.

Flexibility and location of the room are also important, particularly in regard to noise, windows and room shape. Wall surfaces will be used for visual aids and must be carefully planned out. Considerations such as lighting, air, electricity, layout, and furnishings must also be planned when designing a training room. Photographs of various training rooms are included.
