Latest standards from IrDA open floodgates for streams of wireless equipment

Article Abstract:

The Infrared Data Association (IrDA) of California was formed to set international standards on the use of infrared technology. The association, which has 160 member companies, helps companies adopt common standards for hardware and software which use infrared technology. Since it aims to find an easier use of infrared wireless communications and help different equipment brands link to each other, the association is hoping to form a set of standards for accelerated communication. It also hoping to help establish multiple-ratio connections between wireless local area networks.

Wide-format printing on course for explosive growth, fall in output prices

Article Abstract:

I.T. Strategies Inc. of Hanover, MA, is predicting a$20-billion business opportunity for wide-format printers by 2002. The increase, five times greater than the 1997 level, is expected to come mainly from Latin America, the fastest growing market for such printers that are capable of producing printouts wider than 24 in (610m). I.T. Strategies has reported a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37% in a span of five years for the printer in Latin America compared to 21% for North America and Asia, 13% for Europe and 30% for the other areas of the world.
