Personal-use copiers use unified cartridges

Article Abstract:

Canon Inc. will introduce personal-use copiers that utilizes a single cartridge design. The copiers, the Canon Family Copier FC200 that retails for 70,000 yen ($551) and the FC220, available for 90,000 yen ($709), is intended for the use of small offices, home-based businesses and households. The company, which also released the upgraded version of the Canon Mini Copier PC775 for 298,000 yen ($2,346), has incorporated its "Round and Symmetrical" design with the new products to ensure an attractive fit of the device in the workplace.

Sharp zooms in on digital copiers, cuts costs with common parts

Article Abstract:

Sharp Corp has been launching digital copiers since the second half of 1998 in an effort to gain a bigger share of the low-priced copier market. In July 1998, the company introduced the Libre Mini compact digital copier line in Japan and the US. The Libre AL-800 series was launched in the US, Japan and Europe from Oct 1998 to Jan 1999. The wingless 16cpm Libre AR-S160 was released in Japan in Dec 1998 and in the US in Jan 1999.

The company commands 65% of the US market for photocopy equipment, while its European operations account for 48% of the region's Segment 4 copier sales.
