Portable and Desktop Dictation Systems Feature New Magnetic Tape Recording Medium: 'Picocassette.'

Article Abstract:

Dictaphone Corp.'s new cassette-based dictation systems are the Exec portable recorder ($395) and the ExecMaster dictation-transcription system ($550). Both systems use Dictaphone's picocassette, a new magnetic tape recording medium that the company claims is the smallest available. The Exec portable has function keys at the front of the unit, runs on 'N' mercury batteries and measures 108 mm high, 44 mm wide, and 15.5 mm thick; the ExecMaster has a microphone that incorporates the key layout of the Exec portable. ExecMaster is 77 mm high, 211 mm wide, and 146 mm deep. A photograph of the system is included.

Central Pennsylvania Business School has a microprocessor- controlled central dictation system for educational and administrative use. The network is accessible by phone twenty-four hours a day, which boosts productivity. The school's word processing center does all the typing for the administrative functions.
