Problems Encountered in Development of Better Impact Printer

Article Abstract:

Impact printers represent a large proportion of printers in use today. These printers offer features such as carbon copies of data, use of various types of printing paper, high speed printing, high reliability, easy maintenance and low cost. These printers are classified according to their printing method, such as: dot serial printers; dot line printers; moveable type serial printers; moveable type line printers. The printing speed for a serial printer is ten to six hundred characters per second, and for a line printer is one hundred to one thousand characters per second. Impact printers have reached their limit in speed and printing quality. Future growth depends upon improvements in the printhead, motor, and microprocessor. Advancements are also necessary for noise reduction, color printing, and safety. Tables and diagrams are used as illustrations of printer capabilities.

Mitsubishi Offers Color TV With Black and White Printer

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has designed a twenty-one inch color television set that includes a full-size monochrome printer. This system provides hobby, cultural and business applications. It prints 280 x 234 dot images of whatever appears on the screen. Mitsubishi intends to release the printer as an independent unit. A diagram of the television printer system appears in the article.
