Revving Up Sales in Two Detroit Stores

Article Abstract:

Family Computer Center in Michigan had profits of $200,000 in the fiscal year ending in 1984. The Center offers free introductory training classes, a customer hotline and low-cost service contracts. Other classes and services are available. Hudson's Department Store in the Detroit area has two computer departments. The low priced computer center consisting of Atari, Commodore and Coleco machines is run by Hudson's. The other area consisting of Apple, IBM and other higher priced computer is leased by Computer Depot. The advantages of this arrangement for Hudson's and Computer Depot are discussed.

IBM Sales Promotion Shakes Up the Competition

Article Abstract:

Software vendors are upset over IBM's ninety-day promotion offering free IBM software to dealers for each IBM PC-XT hard disk purchased. Competing vendors are charging IBM with 'bundling', a promotional practice used by other vendors who do not dominate the personal computer market. In another promotional effort, IBM reduced the price on its PCjr and portable PC by twenty-two to twenty-seven percent.

LMI Welcomes Xerox Veteran Ken Johnson to Post VP Marketing and Sales

Kenneth M. Johnson has been named vice president of LISP Machines Inc. (LMI), which produces artificial intelligence hardware and software. LMI's Lambda system increased company growth, and the LMI has recently received five million in capital. LISP Machines Inc. was founded in 1980.
