Today's marketing manager is being forced to change his style and management skills in order to survive in the new age of information technology. He will have to develop traits like planning from a tactical and longer range strategic viewpoint. The marketing manager will have to learn how to sift through the vast amounts of information now made possible with new information services. He will have to sort out market research data and understand how finance, sales, advertising and productivity data will affect the marketing program of his company. His skill at marketing and working with other departments will determine his effectiveness with the company. All these skills must be learned by today's marketing manager if he is to survive and prosper.

A study made public in January of 1985 by the Nuffield Provincial Hospitals Trust underscores the high level of concern with management development among chairmen and chief executives within the National Health Service (NHS) of the United Kingdom. A number of beliefs and values came up repeatedly. One of these is the feeling that managerial inclinations should be nourished, supported, and rewarded as soon as they become apparent. The relevant recommendations included the use of modern psychometric review procedures to identify potentially successful managers at a young age.
