Why Ergonomics Can No Longer Be Ignored

Article Abstract:

Ergonomic office environments are important for two reasons: they result in a high return on investment because of better employee performance and they may become required by pending state legislation. A study on the relationship between ergonomic office environments and productivity was conducted over the last five years by Humantech Inc. One group studied prior to use of ergonomic furniture and after the furniture change showed a drop in Monday morning absenteeism from seven to less than one percent, a decrease in error rates while preparing documents from twenty-five to eleven percent, and an increase in time spent using the computer from sixty to eighty-six percent. Other studies provide similar results. A series of charts show benefits of ergonomic furniture in terms of implementing a simple seat and table system to productivity and economic gains to be expected.
