Article Abstract:

A computer system in a mythical company is the focal point in recounting the pitfalls in maintaining, changing or upgrading a system. The tale begins with the addition of a new printer which requires new software. A 300 page budget is lost when the old software proves incompatible with the new. Later, a problem with a disk drive results in the loss of a software diskette and a delay while waiting for parts. The story makes several points: convert all documents before turning new equipment loose for general use; make sure software has backup copies; keep software under security; check the availability of parts and labor before buying.

Categories include the 'Boy Genius', 'Mad Scientist', 'We've Done This Before', 'We've Just Arrived', and 'We've Always Been Here' companies.
