2000 problems ahead

Article Abstract:

Construction industry contractors cannot afford to ignore year 2000 problems relating to computers. The UK Health and Safety Executive has stated that it will prosecute suppliers of safety systems which have failed to warn customers about year 2000 problems. Contractors may face claims concerning year 2000 problems relating to systems they have supplied, even if they have sub-contracted the IT work. Year 2000 problems may occur in a range of equipment including embedded systems, systems with bespoke software and systems which refer to a central clock.

Fuel speed ahead

Article Abstract:

Temporary petrol stations taking only one day to construct are soon to become a popular alternative to permanent sites in Britain. The rapid installation design of British architectural services firm Minale Tattersfield was originally designed for an Italian petrol manufacturer based in Prague, Czech Republic. Temporary petrol stations are likely to be employed in Britain when petrol station refurbishment projects are underway. They are more suited to country and motorway use than busy urban areas.

Common problems in ADR. (alternative dispute resolution)

Article Abstract:

Alternative dispute resolution has a part to play in resolving construction disputes although not all mediations lead to a settlement. ADR is an umbrella term for different techniques such as mediation, and conciliation, and this may lead to confusion between lawyers and clients. ADR is also not appropriate for all cases, but it is not as costly as itigation/arbitration.
