Article Abstract:

Designs for the shopping centre at Castle Mall, within the 2.4 hectares Norwich Castle grounds includes a roof top garden. The project will be completed by Apr 1993. The heavy roof structure has been a major technical design task, as it includes 1.6 hectares of roof landscaping with 150 trees, water feature, play area, shrubbery, promenades and terraces. The choice of roofing has been crucial. The waterproof membrane has been chosen to prevent leaks, fractures, prevent root penetration and provide an insulation layer.

Drawing on experience

Article Abstract:

AutoCAD Release 14, which is to be available shortly in the UK, is as stable as the existing AutoCAD R13 c4 version. It benefits from not using the antiquated DOS configuration menus, and offers improved management of the settings for user profiles. Functions include Xref, which allows the user to build in links to an external file. This has been improved by demand loading of the data for the clipped area, instead of the whole file. There is also a good CD-based tutorial and a Wizard guide to drawing file set-up.

Hidden power

Article Abstract:

Vector Graphics' Caddie for Windows is a CAD system priced at 495 pounds sterling. The comprehensive, 2-dimensional drafting package has a well-organised screen layout with several useful features. Text-handling is good, using the Windows Notepad. A major fault is the poor documentation, particularly the user guide and tutorial.
