Joint adventure

Article Abstract:

UK contractors are sending their management teams on partnering management training courses, to build on their knowledge of working with other companies on a project as partners. Midas Construction sent 100 managers on a course, at a cost of 15,000 pounds sterling. The courses were run by Dove Nest, and candidates are taught basic survival skills, such as map reading, fire building and problem solving. Role-play is encouraged and the group is split into teams to simulate individual firms, which then have to work with each other to perform tasks and make a profit.

EC plans fast track for joint ventures

Article Abstract:

Amendments to the European Community's (EC) competition policy will make joint ventures easier to establish. The setting up of businesses in new markets involves much investment and time and may be risky. The European Commission is simplifying procedures to establish joint ventures by broadening the extent of the Block Exemption Regulations, publishing guidelines on joint venture assessment and speeding up the process.

Fast-track resolution

Article Abstract:

All types of simple contract disputes can be handled by the new Central London County Court Business List. This aims to provide a low-cost, speedy way of ending commercial disputes where the value of the case is less than 200,000 pounds sterling. It allows formal legal procedures to be adapted to the requirements of the specific case, and judges will ensure that all time-saving procedures are implemented.
