A quality prerequisite: treating subs as 'partners.' (subcontractors) (Editorial)

Article Abstract:

Builders need to change their dealings with subcontractors if they aim to achieve total quality management in their projects. They should treat subcontractors as partners who have the same goals and establish a continuous cooperative association with all parties involved in the construction process. Quality management entails a client-oriented approach and an effort to constantly improve productivity and efficiency. It also requires builders to instill quality methods and principles in their employees, encourage communication and involvement and emphasize high standards in workmanship.

Denver's lot supply crisis could spread to other markets

Denver, CO, is undergoing a shortage of lots on the market. Out-of-town builders have trooped to Denver to acquire lots, attracted by reports of the rapid appreciation of lot prices, but they returned empty-handed because there were not enough lots available. Builders also worry about the pricing of Denver lots, given the current lumber indystry crisis. They attribute the rapid disappearance of lots in the market to the return to market pricing and the rise in development costs.
