ALC of NY offers sugar substitute database segments

ALC of New York LLC has been designated list manager of four new Equal consumer database files. The files are 68% female with average annual household incomes of $50,000. The Equal Recipe Requesters file contains the names of 183,000 last-12 month requesters at a base price of $130 per thousand. The Equal Medical Ailment Master File has the addresses of more than 1.7 million households with self-reported ailment information, at a base price of $125/M. The Equal Senior Citizens Marketplace has the names of 390,000 consumers aged 55 and older at a base price of $125/M.

RealNetworks faces real music: $500M privacy lawsuit

Article Abstract:

RealNetworks, based in Seattle, WA, is facing two lawsuits over alleged privacy violations after disclosure that its proprietary RealJukebox media was tracking and reporting user's listening habits without their permission. The legal actions included a class-action suit filed in California Superior Court by a RealJukebox user which is seeking $500 million and a federal class-action lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania by RealNetworks users from Kansas, Pennsylvania and Colorado.

FTC grants stay in Trans Union data-sale order

Article Abstract:

The FTC has granted a stay on its order for Trans Union LLC, a credit bureau and mailing list services firm based in Chicago, IL, to stop selling certain lists of consumer data. The FTC ruled in Feb 2000 that the company's practice of selling lists containing certain data from consumers' credit files for marketing purposes violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The company also filed an appeal of the FTC ruling with the Court of Appeals in Washington.
