AdKnowledge: CPMs continued decline in 1999

Article Abstract:

The cost of 1,000 ad impressions on the Web continued to fall in 1999 even as the number of sites that welcomed advertising rose significantly, according to Palo Alto, CA-based AdKnowledge Inc. The survey found that average CPMs fell 4% in 1999 to $33.75, while the number of sites seeking advertising increased 135%. The report, however, failed to include any statistic on click-through rates.

AdKnowledge tracks cybershoppers to test branding effectiveness

Article Abstract:

AdKnowledge Inc of Palo ALto, CA, will soon unveil its DataDNA service, which can effectively track how businesses implement their online brand advertising. A cookie, or a tiny piece of software that "tags" a computer when it reaches a Web site, will be installed on individuals' computers. A warehouse owned by AdKnowledge will collect all information gathered through DataDNA. However, WebConnect, a Boca Raton, FL-based online media placement, doubts the capabilities of DataDNA.

Govt's pushes self regulation, privacy

Article Abstract:

The Dept of Commerce and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will allow online business to adopt self-regulation to protect shoppers from fraud and invasions of privacy. FTC Chmn Robert Pitofsky said that any legislative moves to regulate online commerce would only stifle the growth of the dynamic marketplace. The Dept of Commerce said that they coordinate with foreign governments to ensure that trade barriers are not set up in the guise of consumer protection.
