Adviser warns on dome cost

Article Abstract:

New Millennium Experience Co may go considerably over the budget of between 3 million pounds sterling and 5 million pounds sterling for each of the 12 zones of the Millennium Dome in Greenwich, London, England, if sponsorship is not arranged soon, according to management consultancy firm PA. Design work now being undertaken on seven of the 12 zones may have to be abandoned or changed considerably once sponsors, who will wish to make their impact on the design, are obtained. Sponsorship deals have now been reached with Sky, Manpower, Tesco, BT, BAA, British Airways and the City of London.

LA lure

Article Abstract:

The UK government should be aware that there are significant advantages to be gained from opening up the private finance initiative (PFI) to local authority housing. Under the PFI, it will be possible to procure homes at a discount, as well as to achieve lower rents and exploit development opportunities. Local authorities would control the rents to be charged throughout the PFI service period, normally 30 years, and most schemes would go into profit at around year 17.
