Deutsche Post reports record results in 2000

Deutsche Post posted record results in 2000, despite a fine and censure from the European Commission for illegal rebates and predatory pricing. The company reported $32.7 billion euros in sales, up 46% over 1999. It earned 29% of t h at amount outside of Germany. Profits jumped 158% to 2.38 billion euros. The sales growth was due largely to acquisitions. The firm went on a $6-billion buying binge in the late 1990s that netted global freight forwarder danzas and AEI in the US.

Deutsche Post attained record sales and profits in 2000, with sales outside Germany doubling to 9.5 billion euros, or $8.55 billion, or 29% of total sales of 32.7 billion euros, or $29.4 billion. Sales were up 46% over 1999, while pre-tax profits jumped 158% to 2.38 billion euros. After- tax earnings rose 48% to 1.53 billion euros, or $1.4 billion. The results showed the company's transformation into an international logistics company.

After strong start to '99, QVC looks to break even in Germany by 2000

Article Abstract:

Shopping network QVC Germany has reported total sales of DM92 million ($51.1 million) in 1998, and is projecting revenues of DM500 million ($277.7 million) in 2000. The network reaches around 15 million households in Germany on a full-time equivalent basis. QVC sources 70% of its items in Germany, 20% in other European countries and 10% or less in the US. QVC Germany's headquarters and studio are located in Duesseldorf, but its call center is in Bochum and its 17,000-sq-ft warehouse in Neuss.
