Andover.Net develops e-commerce around Open Source communities

Article Abstract:

Andover.Net is developing a Web site for developers called server51.freshmeat.net. The site will host ongoing Open Source projects for developers who want to avoid the cost of putting up their own Web sites. Andover will make direct investments or share in the ad revenues on projects that prove to be popular. The company's goal is to eventually sell support and services to businesses using Linux. Andover CEO Bruce Twickler said his company would serve as intermediary between companies who want to use Linux and developers.

Online newcomer sees BTB dollars in museum industry

Article Abstract:

MuseumNetwork.com is a firm established 10 years ago as nonprofit service to museums around the world. The firm has started a for-profit enterprise which uses the Internet to connect museums to both consumers and businesses that serve them. The company constructed a megastore at its site which sells prints, jewelry, sculpture reproductions and books sold by the inhouse museum shops. Among the museums whose merchandise it resells are the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the British Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts.

GIFWprls allows graphic designers to do their work directly on the Net in an environmentla that looks similar to the Windows desktop. Andover.Net derives its earnings by charging advertisers $50 to $60 for every thousand page views the site delivers. Among its advertisers are content delivery service iSyndicate, Fatbrain.com and IBM Corp.
