Doral Bank backs U.S. debut with DM

Article Abstract:

Doral Bank of Puerto Rico will start a direct mail campaign as its opens its first US branch in New York City, NY. Doral Bank will send a tri-fold mailer to households and businesses in the five ZIP codes surrounding the bank's first location in Manhattan by the end of Mar 2000. It will focus on New York's ethnic population and on small and medium-sized businesses. Doral Bank worked with Miller Advertising on the direct mail campaign while American Print Solutions created and distributed the direct mail pieces.

Riggs Bank boosts sales through customer service call center

Article Abstract:

Riggs Bank has been able to double the sales of its call center after putting into effect a system that connects phone service representatives to a database of customer histories. The bank will try to take advantage of the rules-based automation by implementing similar systems for its outbound telesales program. Bank One realized that they could not compete based on volume or the number of branches against bigger competitors but by providing superior service or through alternative channels.

Telemarketers, bank adjust to new privacy focus

Article Abstract:

Telemarketers who offer products to list of bank customers are adjusting their relationships with the banks following legislative moves to determine the amount of information which could be shared by financial institutions to third-party marketers. A proposed bill, HR10, would allow bank to share some non-public information with affiliates and third parties only if they provide their customers the option to cancel such data sharing.
