Bank is buying national marine lender

Republic Security Bank of West Palm Beach, FL, has signed a letter of intent to acquire marine lender First New England Financial Corp from John Deere Credit Inc. The purchase price was $108 million in cash, $101.5 million for First New England's yacht loan portfolion and $6.5 million for its business. The business is composed of First England's name, its 1(800) BOATLOAN telephone number, proprietary loan-processing software and professional staff in various states.

However, independent tradesmen claim that the restrictive marina policies, which are claimed to protect the marinas from liabilities, constitute restraint of trade.
